Hiking the Twin Ponds Trail around the SW side of Fourmile Lake, then heading north up the PCT reveals some fantastic views of the north side of Mt. McLoughlin and the jewel that is Fourmile Lake. Also, a side trip to Summit Lake before heading back rounds out this hike. Bonus: a few pounds of Chanterelles to sweeten the deal!
Access: The road up to Fourmile Lake is right off of Highway 140, just west of Lake of the Woods. From Ashland you can head out Dead Indian Memorial Rd, then turn left at Highway 140, and look for the Fourmile Lake access road to the right.
